What is ABA?
ABA, or Applied Behavior Analysis, is a scientifically-validated approach to understanding and improving behavior. It is based on the idea that all behavior is a form of communication, and by understanding the function of a behavior (what the person is trying to communicate or achieve), we can help teach new, more appropriate ways of communicating and achieving the same goal.
ABA supervision is the process of overseeing the implementation of ABA services by a team of therapists or technicians who work directly with the individual receiving services. A supervisor is a licensed or certified professional who has received additional training in ABA, and who is responsible for ensuring that the team is providing services that are consistent with best practices and that the individual is making progress towards their goals.
ABA parent consultation is a process of working with the parents or caregivers of the individual receiving services to provide education, support, and guidance on how to best support the individual in their daily lives. This may include teaching parents how to use ABA strategies at home, helping them understand the individual's behavior, and working with them to set goals and develop a plan for addressing any challenges.
ABA direct services are the actual services provided to the individual, which may include assessments, skill-building activities, and interventions to reduce problem behaviors. These services are typically provided by a team of therapists or technicians who work under the supervision of a licensed or certified professional.
The goals of ABA services will vary depending on the individual and their unique needs, but may include things like improving communication skills, increasing independence, reducing problem behaviors, and increasing social skills. The strategies used will also vary depending on the individual, but may include things like teaching new skills, reinforcing appropriate behavior, and addressing the function of problem behaviors. It's important to note that ABA services are tailored to each individual and will be adjusted as the individual's needs change over time.
In summary, ABA is a scientifically validated approach that helps to improve behavior of individuals by understanding the reason behind the behavior and teaching new, appropriate ways of communicating or achieving the same goal. ABA supervision, ABA parent consultation, and ABA direct services work together to ensure the individual receives the best support and progress towards their goals.
The benefits of children receiving ABA services are many, but some of the most important are:
Improved communication: Children who receive ABA services are more likely to develop better communication skills, which can lead to increased independence and better social interactions.
Reduced problem behaviors: ABA can help children to reduce problem behaviors such as aggression, self-injury, or property destruction.
Increased learning: Children who receive ABA services are more likely to learn new skills and make progress in areas such as academics, daily living skills, and social interactions.
Increased quality of life: Children who receive ABA services are more likely to have an improved quality of life, which can lead to better outcomes in areas such as education, employment, and social relationships. At Lively Behavioral Solutions, we strive to help all children “live lively” and believe everyone is capable of success.
